Climate change
Monday 15 July 2013
So since when has President Obama - or for that matter any US president - been the arbiter of what is news? David Fogarty’s letter is typical of all those who believe in man-made climate change - it just assumes that he is right. I openly admit to being a sceptic, and I am not alone. The BBC has totally abandoned objective reporting on the subject and issues story after story on the basis that a) there is long-term climate change and b) man is somehow at least in part responsible. Others, with longer perspectives, see climate as a cyclical phenomenon and don’t, for instance, get worked up by hurricanes such as Sandy. Hurricanes, even exceptional ones, happen. Both sides of the climate change story need to be reported objectively, and if the recent changes in Reuters editorial management reflect that imperative, then so much the better. ■
