John Keating

I was very shocked when I heard the news about John [Obituary: John Keating]. I hadn’t seen him since he took his sabbatical last year. He was missed during the Lions tour earlier in the summer as we used to regularly catch up over the rugby.

I was with Reuters for 21 years and spent the last seven years in the Global Technical Centre responsible for the service relationship between Global Operations and the customer facing teams. Working with John was great. He was always willing to help when I was showing customers and internal teams around the Technical Centre trying to promote what went on in the background to give them the services we did.

One thing the general people in Operations were not good at is customer facing but John was the exception. He was especially helpful during the large power upgrade programme and was key to helping me interpret what we would tell customers about the work throughout the whole programme. His help during the production of the video for customers was key for me. John was a great guy to work with and a great guy to socialise with. He will be missed by a lot of old friends from Reuters. ■
