Source to outsource

From the days when Reuters was a tech industry leader in the 80s, it has been difficult to watch the slide in each ensuing iteration of the company.

The risk that goes with being at the forefront became unacceptable. Bit by bit the energy and drive to innovate was chipped away. This week's decision to outsource is a far cry from the tech leadership era that saw the WSJ front-paging the fact that Reuters had the world's biggest data network. An FCC lawyer also told me back then Reuters had set seven precedents in US communications law with its use of new technologies.

Thanks to all who put us there. ■
