Act legally and ethically, Thomson Reuters staff told

Thomson Reuters employees have been reminded always to act legally and ethically in line with the company's Trust Principles and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

The firm’s reputation has been built up over time, Shanker Ramamurthy, pictured, president of global growth and operations (GGO), said in a message to staff on Thursday.

Ramamurthy, a chartered accountant who was hired by Thomson Reuters from IBM in June 2011 as president of sales and trading, said one of the joys of working for Thomson Reuters “is what we stand for: objectivity, independence and no compromise when it comes to doing what is legally and ethically right, as demonstrated by our Trust Principles. This is one of the reasons I joined Thomson Reuters. Our reputation has been built up over time, by generations of our colleagues and journalists who have, in several instances, given their all, to gain this incredibly trusted brand positioning.

“As heirs to this heritage, it is an imperative that we continue to stand by these high standards. Which brings us to the GGO Promise: ‘We will always – always – act legally and ethically. No exceptions. No compromises. None.’

“I expect all of our GGO colleagues to stand by these ideals.”

Ramamurthy said that in coming weeks a cross-regional initiative would review critical content collection and product production processes to refine “a simple, clear set of ‘big rules’ that will help educate us on the right way to source the world’s best professional information”. ■
