Reuters adopts new system for freelance recruitment

Reuters is changing the way it engages freelance journalists in the UK because of government rules and trends within the broadcasting and media industry.

In order to comply with regulations set by HM Revenue and Customs, all freelancers will be engaged through a third party recruitment agency, a transition that began on 1 July. They can choose different contracting arrangements with the agency. Administrative costs vary depending on the chosen arrangements.

Reuters multi-media operations depend heavily on freelancers. A team has been established in London and others are being assembled in New York and Singapore. ■
