Stephen Adler takes on CJR role

Reuters president and editor-in-chief Stephen Adler (photo) is to become chairman of the Columbia Journalism Review’s board of overseers.

CJR editor-in-chief and publisher Elizabeth Spayd and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism dean Steve Coll announced the appointment in a joint statement that said Adler, a board member since 2011, “has been a valuable contributor and unfailing supporter of CJR and its mission”.

They added: “We are grateful he is taking time from his busy life to devote to CJR. We look forward to working with him as we move into a significant new stage of CJR’s life in the years ahead.”

The Review, published six times a year, encourages excellence in journalism in the service of a free society. Its contributing editors include former Reuters correspondent Judith Matloff.

CJR's outgoing chairman Neil Barsky has held the post for five years. ■
