Buzz founder Eric Burroughs moves on

Eric Burroughs (photo), creator of Reuters’ Buzz project and its global editor, is leaving after 16 years to join a financial services firm in London, where he is based.

“From a humble start as a news intern in New York, Eric grew to become one of our foremost authorities on the inner workings of financial markets, spreading his passion for the industry, deep understanding of finance and determination to generate high-quality Buzz across three continents, culminating with the creation of a short-form analysis and commentary service that has become the bedrock of our forex and equity market coverage,” Jonathan Leff, head of financial news strategy and global head of commodities, told colleagues.

The Buzz project that Burroughs founded is a core component of the overall news service. It won the company-wide Presidents Award in 2012, when FX Buzz was launched as an Eikon-only service for professional financial users providing bullet point and short-form commentary and analysis. Stocks Buzz launched in 2014 to provide a one-stop shop for covering stocks on the move and equity market insight.

FX and Stocks Buzz combined employ about 30 full-time people, with Stocks Buzz also involving contributions from bureaux and the major reporting centres in Bangalore and Gdynia.

Burroughs will remain in his role until late August when Americas editor Burton Frierson will step in until a new global editor is appointed.
