Mark Wood steps down as head of TV producer

Reuters' former editor-in-chief Mark Wood (photo) has stepped down as chief executive of a television and multi-media content production business founded by singer, entrepreneur and rights campaigner Bob Geldof.

He will continue to act as an advisor to the board of Zinc Media, previously known as Ten Alps which was set up by Geldorf in 1999.

Wood joined Reuters in 1976 as a graduate training journalist and became a foreign correspondent in Berlin, Moscow, Bonn and Vienna. He ran global news and television operations as editor-in-chief from 1989 to 2000. He then took charge of strategic media investments and alliances.

He later became chief executive of ITN, the British television news organisation, and then of Future, a publisher, from 2010 to 2014. He became Ten Alps CEO in December 2014.

His departure comes after a period of restructuring at the media group. Zinc issued a profit warning in May saying that it expected its full-year results to be below behind expectations, prompting its shares to slide.

The company said it had no immediate intention to replace Wood. It said chairman Peter Bertram would spend more time with the business and chief financial officer David Galan would help to cover Wood’s remit. ■
