Ray Rumble

Ray Rumble was a very special person whose huge value to Reuters General News Division in the years of its existence was perhaps never fully recognised. He was a kind and gentle man but also a very persistent one in his field of expertise. During my two years as Special Traffic Manager in the late 1970s Ray was officially my assistant. In fact I often felt this should have been the other way round. I certainly could not have done my job without him, though I did certain contractual negotiations which he was probably glad he did not have to do. In addition Ray was, by all accounts, an enthusiastic and expert ballroom dancer with his beloved wife, Elsie. He will be truly mourned by all who remember him. ■
