Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism

Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism is sponsored by the Thomson Reuters Foundation and established in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Oxford University. It aims to serve as the leading forum for engagement between scholars from a wide range of disciplines and practitioners of journalism.

The Institute builds on Oxford’s existing engagement with media issues and the Foundation’s Journalists’ Fellowship Programme founded there in 1983. Since then there have been more than 400 Reuters or Thomson Reuters Foundation Fellows.

The Institute’s expanded activities include short- and long-term research projects, a regular series of seminars, workshops, annual conferences, debates and innovative curricular development.

The Institute opened in November 2006. A £1.75 million funding from Reuters Foundation enabled the establishment of a dedicated research centre to provide an independent forum for exchanges between practitioners and analysts of journalism. ■
