AKL - colleague and friend

Adam Kellett-Long, who passed away yesterday, was a colleague and friend for many years. I first got to know him when he was bureau chief in Bonn, where I was posted as a correspondent in 1971. Adam and his wife Mary soon became close friends with myself and my wife, Barbara, and remained so when we were all back in London in the 1980s.

Adam and I shared, among other interests, a great love of cricket and went together - along with friends, including Tony Winning and the late Allan Barker - to watch Test Matches at Lord’s and the Oval, and sometime even further afield. I will miss him greatly. ■
