An essential forum

All praise to Barry May, who deserves our heartfelt thanks for conceiving, building and editing The Baron for 15 years. The website not only enables past and present staffers to stay in touch with news about Reuters and hear about events like the Baron’s Bash, but it is an essential forum which often publicly exposes more about what is happening inside today’s Reuters than the organisation itself. It seems to be the only place where questions can effectively be raised about whether Thomson Reuters is sticking to the Trust Principles in its management of a legendary news agency.

The organisation’s bizarre support for the UK Armed Forces Covenant in 2021 would not have been exposed and then reversed without The Baron.

Barry has put in huge amounts of daily effort to edit the Baron, including when he is on holiday. I wish him well as he takes a well-earned rest and I hope his medical problems will be overcome. ■
