Changing editorial priorities

As a Reuters newsman who was a candidate for a Pulitzer and who won an American Overseas Press Club Citation - way back in the early 1980s - I would say that Reuters has always had the journalistic firepower and in-house abilities to win prizes, and that you don’t breed prizes by changing policies [Reuters changes editorial priorities in quest for Pulitzers]. Award winning journalism comes bottom-up, not top-down. The best way to win awards is to foster and encourage good journalism; it’s that simple. ■
