Cy Fox - eccentric gentility

I was truly saddened to hear the news of Cy Fox's death - a gentle man of wit, humour, erudition and eccentricity. If memory serves me right, Cy arrived at Reuters sporting a splendid walrus moustache which he shaved off as the price of a foolish bet (probably in Mrs Moon's) that Gerald Ford would win the 1976 US Presidential election against Jimmy Carter. His effusive display of arm-waving air kisses, and vows of eternal devotion, when I brought him first editions of some of (to me, unreadable) Wyndham Lewis works discovered in second-hand bookshops, were memorable. ■
