David Witchell, scrupulous and skilful

I too was very sad to learn that David had died.

I first met him in 1972 when, as an accountant, he was assigned to a greenhorn, inexperienced “manager” responsible for Reuters lucrative joint venture with Ultronic to ensure I did nothing stupid to jeopardise the relationship. He was scrupulously honest but skilfully resisted American attempts to increase their share of the JV profits.

Our career paths then went different ways but throughout and later at Reuter Society meetings we would reminisce about those times and the many laughs we shared.

Good man. ■
