Funeral rites for Reuters

While wholeheartedly endorsing Jim Flannery’s praise for Barry May’s splendid editorship, I cannot join his funeral march for a dead giant Reuters.

Since our day the giant has only grown - embracing pictures and video as well as instant textual news. It has become a vital go-to for unbiased multimedia news which has won more international awards than ever in our time.

And I am sure the Reuters journalists of today are as good as - if not better - than we thought we were (if that is possible!).

Finally, let’s not forget that the changes in management saved Reuters from a certain death. The Giant would indeed have fallen if not for the deep pockets of new owners.

Sorry, Jim, I still wear my glad rags for Reuters. Black is out. ■
