Getty after the abduction

A close friend was sharing a flat with John Paul Getty III in Rome at the time of his kidnapping and he was always convinced that it was not a staged abduction. My friend continued to see a lot of John Paul in his later years and I went with him on two occasions to the family home outside Siena in Italy - once to attend a small outdoors concert and another time to have lunch with John Paul. Though a paraplegic, John Paul could still hear and he took great delight in music. He could also communicate with various signs. ■
