Hacking indictment

I compare it [Reuters editor indicted for helping hackers] to a dinner guest stabbing his host to death because nobody ever taught him table manners. From the time I began reporting at the Ponca City News in 1960, I was taught rules of journalism. They were reinforced in every job I held until I retired from Reuters in 2005. Helping criminals was not included. This happened before Reuters, but the lesson to be learned is that social media practitioners do not have to go through any ethical training. A week of schooling in proud journalism history, Reuters history and standard practices might be useful. ■
