Journalism is a lot like riding a bike

I just finished my first week back as a Reuters journalist after being on leave of absence for nearly 10 years as a full-time officer of The NewsGuild of New York.

My new colleagues on the general news team and throughout the New York bureau (and Washington) have been terrific. I've gotten tons of welcome back messages (some from unexpected sources), more than a few thank yous for my Guild work, and no shortage of help as I wrestled with the technical and corporate infrastructures.

After having written a few little stories, I guess I can say that journalism is a lot like riding a bike, only they put a lot more crap on the handlebars these days. I'm looking forward to hurling myself into reporting again. ■
