Journalism must pay for itself

Journalism is a business like any business and must pay for itself somehow, as it did from the earliest days of Baron Reuter. But the best journalism brands find ways to do it without cheapening the brand on which consumers' trust depends. I see "sponsored content" every day as I read the New York Times' digital edition, but I never feel confused about exactly who is working for whom. ■
