I’d spin it this way [Journalism: the long and the short of it]: In the newspaper industry length was always associated with “importance” - until USA Today came along. That wasn’t enough to humble dailies, however. What social media and online publications have done is to cater to the desire by all of us to be given the news in proper doses. That most updates can be addressed in a few words is neither good nor bad. Assuming that brevity is an indicator of inconsequentiality is pure hubris. ■
