Manfred Pagel - a dry sense of humour

Manfred and I joined Reuters in Bonn three years apart when the bureau was run by David Sells.

Manfred tried and failed to make me share his enthusiasm for economic news but we became close friends. He had a dry sense of humour that some of our British colleagues did not always understand. ■
