My mentor, Douglas Learmond

I was sorry to hear about Douglas’s passing. I worked with him for many years as part of the Reuters City Office team. He was actually my mentor, inasmuch as when I stepped up from being a clerk to a journalist in 1984, he provided valuable insight, guidance and exhaustible patience when training me on the job.

I can only echo the comments made by many others who worked with him over the years. He was always very helpful, and led by example when covering stories - he never shied away from the nitty-gritty side of the job.

I have attached a link to one part of a series I wrote about the Tin Market Crisis of the 1980s. I reference Douglas in this, as well as two other former colleagues - who sadly are no longer with us. ■
