Nick Carter

Nick believed in not only keeping up standards of journalism but also of dress. His first day at Reuters in Singapore, where very light casual clothes were the norm, there was torrential rain. Nick, however, ventured forth in his three-piece woollen suit and raincoat, in temperatures in the 90s with 100 per cent humidity. The next day he had a lightweight russet-coloured safari suit made and we never saw his three-piece suit again. ■
