Peter Howse - infinite patience and clarity

Others are better equipped to attest to the qualities of the late, great Peter Howse than I am.

I remember two things principally.

Firstly, Peter was the main inventor of the stand-alone MES 300 Reuter Monitor terminal. Without it, Reuters’ commercial success in the 1980s would have been sharply reduced.

Secondly, I remember the infinite patience and clarity with which he explained technical issues to the likes of me. The only one I remember related to the workings of the analogue TV signal. But there were others, and I shall always think of Peter with deep gratitude. ■
