Reuters or Refinitiv?

John Albanie, once Reuters’ top salesman, makes a good case for restoring Reuters' name to the financial news service that will emerge from the LSE’s purchase of Refinitiv.  But do we really want Reuters' name on a company that censors news the Chinese authorities do not like?

Refinitiv Ltd was probably meant to have a short shelf life. I can imagine the late Ian Macdowall, Reuters' grammar and style guru, dismissing the name Refinitiv Limited with the comment: "It's a tautology. Anything finite is limited." ■
