Right message, wrong Pope

I totally agree with everything Marcus and others have said about the potentially perilous “militarisation” of Reuters. But I believe he has the wrong Pope.

It was the short-lived Pope John Paul I who told an audience of journalists shortly after his election that if Jesus were to come back he would work for Reuters. I was in the audience at the time, and that is how we reported the story. I do not recall any Reuters executives meeting with Pope Paul VI. ■
