Rudi Saks - top gun

Rudi was a pillar of Reuters North America, running a powerful financial news operation of excellence and integrity. He could be gruff and rough at times, but he was energetic and passionate about the news and Reuters being there first and right. He played a key role in establishing Reuters as a primary news presence in North America after our name being chiefly famous there as a drain cleaner. Rudi would have scorned the fake news and financial frippery of today. He was a serious journalist of the old school - but also fun company, with a great sense of humour and widely read outside things financial. He loved the books of Wilbur Smith and I hope he’s taken the entire portfolio with him for his long rest. Here’s to you, Rudi. No one’s like you. ■
