Barry May turned The Baron into a prestigious website, the source of reliable information for researchers of contemporary history and journalism. The Baron, for example, is cited in a biography of the late Australian journalist Graham Jenkins, a former Reuters correspondent and publisher of two outstanding Asian newspapers - The Straits Times and the Hong Kong Star. While covering the Chinese civil war for Reuters in 1949 he was jailed and sentenced to death by the Nationalists for a story about the advancing Red Army. He was released after the intervention of other foreign correspondents in Shanghai. ■
