Ex-Reuters journalists find a home at World Bank
Wednesday 30 October 2013
The number of former Reuters journalists making a career at the World Bank Group has prompted the creation of an informal alumni group.
Pictured lunching recently in downtown Washington were from left to right: Maureen Lorenzetti, former commodities and energy editor in the Washington bureau and now senior communications officer for the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network; Aliza Marcus, a former correspondent in Turkey and now a senior communications officer in the Human Development Network; Sue Pleming, former Afghanistan and Pakistan correspondent in the Washington bureau and now senior communications officer for the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor; Laura MacInnis, former White House correspondent and now a communications officer at the International Finance Corporation; and Alex Ferguson, former Washington bureau news editor and now the Bank’s senior manager, South Asia External Affairs.
Ferguson was previously chief of staff to the president of the World Bank and his communications adviser. After those jobs he suffered what he admits was “a close call with death when I had a heart attack”. He is fit and healthy now and completed his first Olympic distance triathlon in September. ■
