Spring wedding for Allan Barker

Allan Barker, a Reuters correspondent and editor for 35 years, with his bride Doreen Stevens at their wedding on Wednesday.

Australian-born Barker, 79, was chief sub-editor on the London Business Unit when he retired in 1995 after a career that took him to key centres including New York, Washington, London, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Based in Arundel, West Sussex, he continues to watch stock markets - and horse racing - closely and on the eve of the wedding was advising colleagues in an investment club to take “the current attractive profit”. ■
