A man of true integrity

I remember François as the caring, hands-on Bahrain-based Middle East editor when I was Cairo correspondent in the early 80s. Quietly spoken, ever-vigilant, he knew how to get the best from his far-flung team, who trusted and admired him, knowing that in a crisis - and there were plenty - they could count on his integrity and judgement. He was a both a fine editor and a fine person. A lovely man. ■
