Bruce Russell: Truly one of Reuters unforgettable characters

Bruce was bureau chief in Washington when I worked there from 1984 to 1990. He was an excellent bureau chief who gave his journalists every leeway to pursue their stories. I'll always appreciate his kindness in helping me and my family settle in DC - quite a culture shock after many years in Africa and the Middle East. Bruce presided over a successful transformation of the Reuters bureau into a powerhouse of US as well as international news. He gathered an unrivalled team of reporters and editors, all of whom held him in great affection. Truly one of Reuters unforgettable characters. ■
