Departures

Reuters is dead. When a news organization no longer has a place for journalists like Bernd Debusmann, Jim Vicini and Donna Smith, it’s pretty much time to hang out the shingle. I’m not sure what Thomson is trying to accomplish with its current purge of any Reuter journalist who has shown more than a decade or two of loyalty to the company, but it is creating a vibrant marketplace where highly competent and experienced reporters and editors are up for grabs. I wish all of them the very best and encourage them to bring the same energy and intelligence to their new ventures that they gave to the Baron for much of their lives. ■
