Donna Smith
Tuesday 2 October 2012
Donna Smith, a greatly cherished and greatly talented former Washington Bureau colleague of mine, has today become the latest star journalist to walk out the door of the Reuters Washington Bureau. Preceding her have been ace Supreme Court reporter Jim Vicini and legendary Treasury Department correspondent Glenn Somerville.
Here is Donna's farewell message:
Farewell from Donna Smith
After 27 years, the time has come for me to move on from Reuters. I enjoyed working with such a great group of people and will miss my colleagues. I am taking advantage of a great opportunity to do something that I have been wanting to do for some time and I am looking forward to a change of pace...
Donna and I were hired in Washington just months apart back in the 1980s, as I recall, and it was a privilege to work closely with her during my 11 years in the bureau. We were both reporters for some of those years, and she was at one point my boss. She was an excellent reporter, demanding and inspiring editor and dear friend.
Best of luck in your new life, Donna! ■
