'First, sleep with the local Reuters correspondent'

This morning I heard Dame Ann Leslie on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme quote another lady journo, the late Anne Sharpley of the London Evening Standard, as saying her recipe for success as a female foreign correspondent was, on arrival in a new country, first sleep with the local Reuters correspondent and then with the police chief.

Is that a compliment? ■
