I trust the obituary [Too soon, Reuters kills off financier George Soros], when its moment comes, will mention that George Soros was also a generous philanthropist: during the 1990s he financed post-Communist transition projects in Eastern Europe to the tune of several hundred million dollars a year. He helped at a time of considerable hardship for large numbers of people. He himself came from that part of Europe. ■
