It was very interesting to see veteran Pentagon correspondent Charles Aldinger posting on the website for the first time with a relevant and bullish comment about modern-day Thomson Reuters [Algerian hostage crisis]. I well remember being in the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondent’s Club some 30 years ago and being lectured by Charlie about my eating habits. I was tucking into the FCC’s excellent and crisp fish and chips whilst Charlie, who was standing next to me, was nibbling a very conservative green salad. However, I was the picture of health, and still am, whilst poor Charlie had a florid and unhealthy pallor. And not exactly slim for a chap in his mid-forties who smoked. Wonder what the healthy eater Charles Aldinger looks like these days? ■
