Jack Hartzman

World Desk was always in safe hands when Jack was in charge. His news judgment was unquestioned, his dedication to the Sked admirable, his exchanges with correspondents invariably precise and helpful. He was one of a kind, much respected by all who worked with him. Mark Trevelyan summed Jack up much as I remembered him - “clipped tones, steely gaze and forensic editing skills”. ■
