Leaning back into the future

I agree with Marcus. On paper, at least, this move [Economist CEO to join Reuters as chief executive] suggests Reuters understands that it can profit from “leaning” towards its roots as a dependable, accurate, fast, real-time news service. Andrew Rashbass’s strategy at The Economist has been to introduce the kind of news coverage that Reuters has long excelled at into the magazine’s digital profile. We can be excused for hoping that his appointment, plus the movement of the news department’s center of gravity towards London, suggests TR no longer is aping The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg’s media strategy. ■
