Losing the plot

I was entertained to see the fanfare with which Bloomberg announced its own signing-up to the Armed Forces Covenant  The lead refers only to the “Crown” and the first reference to the actual country is left until paragraph 10.

As someone who had more than just a walk-on part during my early days at Reuters in Moscow in the 1970s and then was frequently taken to task for the Balfour Declaration when reporting in the Arab world, I thought the principles of maintaining neutrality and keeping government at a distance were well ensconced. Obviously not. ■
