The covenant and the pandemic

News that Thomson Reuters has signed a covenant pledging to support the British armed forces has been informative in more ways than one. The widespread indignation that it aroused showed who among my former colleagues in four decades with Reuters has survived the pandemic.

Someone asked what the late Reuters style guru Ian Macdowall would have said about the covenant. He probably would have said: “One man’s army is another man’s enemy.” ■
