Making central bankers blink

Peter Montagnon and I worked together in the 70s notably covering the Bank of International Settlements annual meetings. He asked the questions that made the central bankers blink and continued doing so when facing City grandees and senior civil servant in his later roles, particularly in the area of corporate governance. His speech was measured but anybody who equated that with a slow mind was quickly disabused of that notion. I regarded him as a friend and colleague and in later years as his stature grew, something of a mentor. ■
