Marconi, Galloni and Reuters

Guglielmo Marconi was the Italian inventor of radio communications. Fascinated with the fast transmission of news, he even tried to buy Reuters in 1916.

Bloomberg’s five-hour beat on the blocking of the Suez Canal by a cargo ship, as mentioned in The Baron’s thought-provoking editorial [Will Reuters new editor bring change or more of the same], is difficult to understand in this age of instant communications.

Let us hope that Alessandra Galloni, another Italian and Reuters first female editor-in-chief, will restore the speed and accuracy on which Reuters News built its reputation. ■
