PIP casualty

A lot of people in Reuters Asia have either already been put on a PIP or been threatened with a PIP [Supreme Court reporter, ‘PIP casualty’, calls it a day]. Some have been terminated, some have opted to quit while others are looking around. The response of management and staff depends on the country and its laws, it seems: so while Australian laws make it tough to get rid of people, Singapore laws make it dead easy to axe staff.

Unlike the US where the Guild has taken up the issue and staff on PIPs have received enormous support, the whole PIP exercise in Asia has got no attention because there is no such body here. Everything that the Guild has written about holds true for Asia too. ■
