Crying shame [Supreme Court reporter, ‘PIP casualty’, calls it a day]. Jim Vicini is a legend in the Washington press corps. Reuters has no clue how much talent and experience it has just thrown away.

The company sounds like a dreadful place to work these days. I choose to remember the happier times back in the ’80s and ’90s when Reuters was blazing onto the US scene and making its mark against the APs, DJs and UPIs of the world.

Jim was an enormous part of the Washington bureau for four decades. But more than that, he was a decent and honest human being. He will be sorely missed. Reuters should have built a shrine to him, not make him take some stupid test. Kudos to Jim for having the courage to step down before they could administer it. ■
