RIP Sumeet: fun and enjoyable

I was very sad to read that Sumeet Desai had died so young. When I was a graduate trainee in 2003-04, he put me so at ease during my shift on the UK Econ desk. He was always smiling and joking around. It could have been a daunting assignment for a less-that-financially-savvy trainee but instead Sumeet made it fun and enjoyable. He formed a legendary team with the equally affable Ashley Seager. They nicknamed me “Ulan Bator” after the only question I got right on University Challenge and Sumeet stayed in touch during our time at Reuters. RIP. ■
