Voluntary buyouts

It didn’t take long for me to be proved correct [Reuters and US union agree on voluntary buyouts]. By eliminating the Americas Desk the firm rid itself of some of the old Newspaper Guild lions. One presumes it was necessary because the bullying campaign outlawed by the NLRB did not work. When the Bangalore reporters attempt to call American sources there will be huge disconnects in cognitive agreement and difficulty with the language. There is also a hint of the continuing delusion that the accountants on the financial desks can make the language sing like the drunks and dreamers in General News. It doesn’t work either way, and both reports suffer. ■
