Thomson Reuters opens huge new centre in India
Saturday 22 June 2013
Thomson Reuters has opened a new centre in Bangalore that is second in size only to its biggest site in the United States.
The new campus at DivyaSree Technopolis was inaugurated earlier this month in the presence of chairman David Thomson and other senior corporate figures and Indian dignitaries headed by Hansraj Bhardwaj, governor of the state of Karnataka.
Along with the chairman were his younger brother Peter Thomson, co-chairman of Woodbridge, the Thomson family’s investment company which is 55 per cent owner of the group, and a Thomson Reuters board member; Shanker Ramamurthy, president, global growth and operations; Swarup Choudhury, managing director, GGO India; and Peter Warwick, executive vice president and chief people officer.
“This was a truly collaborative effort that required strong planning and execution and overall commitment from everyone involved,” Thomson Reuters said.
“Why did we feel the need to make this move? Until this year, our operations in Bangalore have been spread across seven buildings. This has limited effective collaboration across teams, and also impacted our operating costs. Consolidating six of our building into a new campus, DivyaSree Technopolis and retaining one other (RMZ Infinity) brings considerable benefits in terms of employee engagement, collaboration and the effectiveness and efficiency in our operations.”
Technopolis is now the second largest Thomson Reuters facility worldwide. The company employs around 6,000 staff in Bangalore.
“This is a fantastic campus which we hope will foster an even greater sense of community and collaboration and the diversity of functions and businesses in one location establishes us as a center of excellence. The opening of this impressive new state-of-the art building demonstrates Thomson Reuters commitment to Bangalore and to the region, and to our employees.”
Thomson Reuters said the move had further strengthened the company’s presence in Bangalore as a brand, an employer and as a member of the community in which it operates. “Everyone who was at the heart of the initiative should be extraordinarily proud of their achievements.”
The new campus was officially opened on 6 June but news of it was announced on Thomson Reuters’ Knowledge Effect blog only yesterday.
