Thomson Reuters re-aligns technology function

Thomson Reuters chief executive James Smith on Monday re-organised the group's corporate technology function, saying technology was more important than ever to its future success.

He named two executives to ensure greater focus on both innovation and scale – Rick King, chief operating officer, and James Powell, chief technology officer. Both will report directly to Smith, who said: “The move is intended to provide greater transparency related to investments in, and savings generated by, our technology infrastructure and operations efforts.”

King, pictured, will oversee the group’s central technology infrastructure and operations. He will be responsible for core infrastructure, and for accelerating efforts to take better advantage of the group’s scale.

Powell will oversee the long-term technology strategy, platforms and architecture, as well as information security company-wide. ■
